Marvin Nabwire’s decisive first half strike was the difference as AFC Leopards edged out Vihiga United 1-0 in a Kenya Premier League round 24 clash played on Sunday 29th at the Mumias Sports Complex.
Coach Rodolfo Zapata made two changes to squad that started in the Mashemeji Derby bringing Moses Mburu for Issac Oduro, Captain Duncan Otieno coming back from suspension to replace Said Tsuma in the middle of the park.
Leopards controlled proceedings from the start of the match and almost got close to scoring in the 15th minute after a fine cross from Dennis Sikhayi found Edward Seda but his headed effort went wide.
It was until the 30th minute that Leopards finally got the break through after Marvin Omondi collected a loose ball just outside the box sending a thunderous shot that left Tiema helpless thus giving Leopards the opener.
The second half saw Ingwe miss the services of the goal scorer who went down injured and was replaced by Eugene Mukangula. Leopards controlled the second half though both sides were unable to launch serious attacks at goal.
This was Leopards 10th win of the season, which propels them to 39 points and fourth on the table.
Leopards will face Mathare United in the upcoming fixture. Ingwe overcame the slam boys 4-3 in the first leg encounter.
