We caught up with Victor Omune at our training base, and he shared his views ahead of the 95th edition of the Mashemeji Derby at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
How is the mood in the camp ahead of Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby against Gor Mahia?
The boys are in great mood as we approach Sunday’s march against our arch rivals, Gor Mahia. Being the biggets match in the land, the derby comes with some sort of pressure but we are determined to make our fans proud. It’s always a dream of every Kenyan player to play in this fixture is not only watched in East Africa but also across the continent.
So far, how have been the preparations for the match?
Everyone in the camp knows the importance of this match and what is at stake. Playing in the derby is one special feeling because it is a match that has everyone’s attention. We are all focused and looking forward to a good outing.
As a team, do you have any pressure heading into the Derby?
The only pressure we have as players is to accord our very loyal fans the bragging rights in this match. Every keen follower of the game in the country knows how AFC Leopards fans have been supportive throughout the season. All our matches have been well attended both home and away. We are working hard not to let down our fans. They really deserve a win in this match.
How important will it be getting a win in the Derby?
We are not in an impressive position and that’s why we need the three points more than our rivals. And I would like to score in the Derby again because it has one very special feeling. To our fans, let us turn up in numbers and support the team. we really need you in the stands.
VIP tickets for the match will be sold at Sh1000 while Terrace tickets will be retailed at Sh300.
The tickets will be sold on the matchday from 7.00am at the following designated ticketing points: Kenya Cinema (Nairobi CBD), Nairobi City Stadium, Riadha House and Outside Nyayo Police Post Main Gate .
