AFC Leopards qualified for the FKF Cup round of 16 yesterday after edging out a hard fighting PAC University by 3 goals in a match that was played at Police Sacco Grounds. Midseason acquisition Arthur Gitego scored all the goals ,one in the first half and two in the second half. Arthur capitalized on an error from the PAC University goalkeeper who made a poor clearance with ball landing straight to Gitego who scored our opener in the 37th minute. Gitego got his second goal right after the break heading past the helpless PAC goalkeeper from an Omune Victor’s cross in the 48th minute. He later got his hattrick by tapping into the net a low cross from Cliff Miheso in the 77th minute. This was Gitego’s third match since joining the club in January from Rwandese side Marine FC.
AFC Leopards will play Shabana FC in the Round of 16 match to be played on the last weekend of March.
After getting his hattrick, Gitego had this to say, “The game was not easy because our opponents tried to fight to get goals, but we created more chances and had more ball possession than them. I thank my teammates and technical staff for their efforts to ensure that we got that important win. I am very happy to score my first goal and to put an icing on the cake, the hattrick .This is just the beginning big things are coming. I also take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our ever-present fans. As a team we really appreciate their support, to be honest they deserve this trophy.”
