AFC Leopards beat Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) 3-1 on Saturday to move to up the Premier League table. Leopards made their intentions known as early as the sixth minute when Noah Wafula made a surging run on the right wing to cross for Jacob Keli who’s shot was intercepted by former Ingwe defender Douglas Okumu.
The first clear chance for Ingwe fell to captain Martin Imbalambala who shot wide from a rebound. Imbalambala had dislodged Ivan Anguyo off the ball, making a surging run into the box before releasing the powerful Wafula whose shot was parried onto Imbalambala’s path. Ingwe maintained the pressure and were rewarded in the 23rd minute when Jacob Keli lashed in a Musa Mudde’s cross to make it 1-0.
Pieter Hendrick De Jongh’s side piled on the pressure and got a second goal through Noah Wafula. Jacob Keli flicked the ball into Wafula’s path who lobbed the ball past an oncoming Phillip Odhiambo to double the lead.
The second half was quite a balanced affair but it was KRA who settled fast in the game, winning fouls in Leopards danger area. KRA had a goal disallowed in the 53rd minute after an Ivan Anguyo free-kick was ruled out. Anguyo was rewarded in the 68th minute in a similar way when he hit a freekick beyond a stranded Martin Musalia.
Bernard Mang’oli put the result beyond doubt when he calmly slotted in a penalty after Rodgers Ochieng’ had fouled Keli in the box.
The team will shift focus to the match against Tusker on Sunday 24th August 2014 at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium.
