AFC leopards lost to Tusker FC in our FKF-PL matchday 24 in a match that was played on Sunday at a fully packed Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos. Tusker got the lone goal of the match in the 35th minute . A deflection off a corner from Gitego’s foot was the difference between the two sides. This ended AFC Leopards’ 10-match unbeaten run across all the competitions.
In a match that coach Thomas Trucha had only made one chance in the squad, with Hassan Beja replacing an injured Cliff Nyakeya, Arthur Gitego had AFC Leopards’ best chances , his 36th header from a Hassan Beja’s cross went off target while his shot at the edge of the 18-yard box in the 58th minute was acrobatically saved by the Tusker FC goalkeeper.
AFC leopards piled pressure in the closing stages of the match as they pushed to get an equalizer. Second half substitute Kevin Kimani squared the ball to Vincent Mahiga from free kick, but the left back’s effort flew off target.
The Leopards currently sit 8th on the league table with 34 points as the league takes a break. Players will be reporting for international duty. Arthur Gitego will be joining his teammates in Rwanda. Hassan Beja, Christopher Koloti, Kelly Madada and Nesta Olum have been named in the Kenya Under 20 provisional squad.
We play next on 31st March in the FKF Cup round of 16 against Shabana FC. The match is scheduled to be played at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay
