The AFC Leopards 60th anniversary received a major boost on Friday after Nairobi Governor
Johnson Sakaja donated Sh2 million to Ingwe kitty.
In a brief ceremony held at the County Hall, Sakaja said that he will help the club realise its long
term dream of owning a training facility by fast-tracking the process of acquiring its land at
Kasarani Stadium “I will personally initiate the process (reclaiming the Kasarani land) and ensure that we develop it and have a training facility developed in the area.”
Sakaja also said that he will initialize efforts to bring more sponsors on board for the celebrations and beyond. Ingwe at 60 will be marked on March 24, 2024 and the club aims at making it a full month of
activities.
Speaking on K24 television on Friday afternoon, club Patron Alex Muteshi who was flanked by
club chairman Dr.Dan Shikanda, revealed that they have lined up a number of events including
an Ingwe night, charity matches and a cake cutting ceremony as well as CSR activities. “We are planning to have the best celebrations, our programmes have started, we have interviewed our past heroes, former officials,” said Muteshi.
Dr. Shikanda said that there will be a curtain raiser match between AFC Leopards select team
and a Spanish side. “We are trying to create relationships with teams abroad and we have a Spanish team coming,” Shikanda. The club intends to have a cake cutting party on March 12 as they roll out the remaining activities.
“On 12th March there will be a cake cutting ceremony and we will involve two children’s homes.
“We want to ensure that the club moves to the next level as we try to catch up with the lost years,” Shikanda added.
Ingwe at 60 chairman Vincent Shimoli, who is a former club vice chairman, expressed
confidence that the celebrations will be a success and will help propel the team to greater
heights.
“We are urging all leaders and Ingwe lovers to show a positive gesture and support as we set
standards to this,” said Shimoli.
“We also thank Governor Sakaja for this gesture, we urge other leaders to come on board and
help Ingwe.”
