Preview: Tusker FC vs AFC Leopards

Kenya Premier League defending Champions Tusker Fc will be eyeing their seventh straight win in the league as they welcome AFC Leopards in Meru on Sunday. Tusker FC has beaten AFC Leopards eight time in the last 14 meetings. Five matches have ended in draws and AFC Leopards has managed just one win. Ingwe’s lone win those 14 ties came in May 2014 when Jackson Saleh scored for a 1-0 win.

28 goals have been witnessed in this clash, with Tusker FC scoring 20 goals while eight goals have come from AFC Leopards. In those 14 ties Tusker FC has kept seven clean-sheets and Leopards have picked only four clean-sheets.

Last season first leg tie ended in a 2-2 draw with Alfred Kemboi and Allan Kateregga scoring for Leopards while Tusker scored through Shafik Batambuze and Ekaliana Ndolo. In the second leg encounter Shafik Batambuze’s lone goal was enough to hand Tusker FC the Kenya Premier League title. It was first match for Coach Stewart Hall and reports indicate that it might be his last match in charge.

Tusker FC

The Brewers have seven wins in the league so far. In the last six league matches they have picked 18 points (maximum in every match). In the first six matches they only managed six points. They have suffered two losses and the other three have been draws.

Their attack has scored 16 goals (third best attack). It is only Gor Mahia FC and Thika United defence that have been able to stop Tusker FC attack from scoring. At the back, they have let in 12 goals despite having kept six clean-sheets.

Third placed Tusker FC has collected 13 points from six matches played in their own back yard this season. Its only Kakamega Homeboyz and Ulinzi Stars who have managed the similar points at home so far. A win for Coach George Nsimbe will see him match Jose Fereira’s record of seven straight wins in the league.

AFC Leopards

After an impressive start that brought smiles to fans and hopes of ending a long wait for the league title, Leopards spots have once again started fading just like last season. Are they experiencing April and May curse? Last season the side failed to thrive in this period and went on without a win for three months.

They are on a six match winless streak, they last picked three points against Thika United in match played at Thika Stadium on April 23. With four wins, three draws and five losses, Ingwe are placed 11th on the league standings with 15 points.

AFC Leopards has picked just 21 wins in the last two and half season (72 matches). Playing away from home seems a tall order for the Big Cats, they won just eight matches on the road since February 2015. Last season they managed just two wins on the road. They have picked seven points and six goals  away from home this season. Their last two matches on the road has seen them loose by a 1-0 margin.
